Telugu Student Vaaka Adi Reddy ( Age 26) is shot at Oklahoma city on Tuesday night around 10:00 p.m  by two black guys after robbing the store where Adi Reddy is working as part time employee.

He is admitted immediately into the near by Oklahoma University Hospital. Still he is in ICU and condition is very critical.

We are planning to bring his family members immediately from Andhra Pradesh to Oklahoma City with the help of NRI Minister Sridhar Babu.

Adi Reddy is very active and friendly person who belongs to Uppalapadu village, Praksam district and doing Masters degree at Oklahoma City after completion of his Engineering in Bachelors at Baptla, Guntur District .

Adi Reddy actively participates in many social activities and also big supporter of Dr YS Raja Sekhara Reddy, he played a good role in YSR Victory Rally Held at Smith Ville , TN on May 23rd, 24th after second time winning of YSR.

Dallas, TX: In a massive show of support, over 100 delegates from more than 50 different Indian organizations met at FunAsiA Banquet Hall on March 6th under the auspices of Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC) and India Association of North Texas (IANT).

The meeting which was called to order by Taiyab Kundawala, Secretary IAFC mentioned in his opening address about the efforts of various organizations including IANT, in starting projects to establish a statue for Mahatma Gandhi but only now we have moved closer.  Taiyab introduced Prasad Thotakura, Texas State Coordinator, IAFC and President-elect, Telugu Association of North America (TANA) who is spearheading the effort as a trusted and proven leader who could muster the support of various community organizations in Dallas area to make this dream come alive.

Prasad Thotakura pledged $10,000 towards this project from IAFC. Prasad walked the audience through an excellent PowerPoint presentation regarding the concept, salient features and steps going forward.  He mentioned that with over 100,000 strong Indian Diaspora, it is a fitting tribute to the Dallas landscape to have the 9 foot-high statue of Mahatma Gandhi in downtown Dallas near the City Hall. He showed the letter that the Dallas Convention Center sent allocating the location subject to some conditions such as funding, architectural plan etc.  In this preliminary meeting, he wanted to gauge the enthusiasm of attendees to take next steps.

Continuing the presentation, he gave some details about the 9-foot statue with matching granite pedestal, 75-foot long granite Peace Wall with inscriptions of several famous pacifists such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela besides Mahatma Gandhi.  He showed some preliminary architectural plans which include a flower garden, water fountain etc. besides at least 5 annual events relating to Mahatma Gandhi and his life.  He mentioned that detailed architectural plans will be developed and will be presented to Dallas Convention Board soon for approval. He introduced MVL Prasad as the person in charge to coordinate the statue related activities including making, shipping and installation.  He thanked the broad spectrum of people from all walks of lives, faiths and gender who showed their support by attending the meeting.  He was positive that the installation could take place by August 15, 2010.

Prasad Thotakura introduced Niranjan Patel, President of India Association of North Texas (IANT) to the audience.  Niranjan Patel, while pledging $10,000 towards this project from IANT talked about extensive donations made by IANT in the face of natural disaster in India and USA.  He reiterated the importance of this prestigious project and requested all attendees to donate generously in cash and kind.

Several prominent leaders belonging to various ethnic, social, cultural, religious and business organizations expressed their full support in all forms including financial to make this dream come true in Dallas.  Prominent cardiologist Dr. Dhiren Shah expressed that such a prestigious project of pride to all Indians should spare no expense and should be done exquisitely.  This view was fully endorsed by Nirmal Nilvi another successful businessman and long-term resident of Dallas.  Several members of the audience wanted to know more details about the project so they can take it back to their respective communities.  To this effect, a follow up meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Dallas Convention Center.

Dallas, TX: The Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC) a twenty-year old non-profit organization has been pursuing the City of Dallas to install Mahatma Gandhi statue for a quite some time and finally got the approval from the City.

“We sincerely thank Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert for taking initiative in realizing our long cherished dream. More than 100,000 Indian-Americans who live in the Greater Dallas area would be very excited to see Mahatma Gandhi statue in the heart of the Dallas City soon. This is the project of the whole Indian-American community; several India based organizations including the India Association of North Texas (IANT), Individuals, Professional, Businesses, Entrepreneurs, Women, Youth and Senior Citizens will be part of this project and historical movement. The statue will be made in India by a noted sculptor Mr. B. Siva Varaprasad and shipped to Dallas.  Varaprasad is a very experienced sculptor especially in making Bronze statutes and also the winner of the President (Abdul Kalam) Award for his skills,” Prasad Thotakura, Texas State Coordinator and the General Secretary, IAFC said.

IAFC, the host organization of the project, has already allocated $10,000 towards making this cause. Several organizations and businesses are coming forward to support the project. Prasad Thotakura, Dr. Tarakumar Reddy, Piyush Patel, Taiyab Kundawala, Dr. C.R. Rao, Dr. Niranjan Tripathy, Rao Kalvala, Dr. Sat Gupta and Renee Dutia are serving as Board of Directors of IAFC. Several Elderly Parents who are visiting from India, had consultations and examinations from several specialist doctors at the event. Also unemployed families and Students thronged the venue to seek medical aid and advice.

Dr.Madhu Korrapati (Nephrology, Internal Medicine) championed the effort in inviting the participation of several doctors for the event. The following doctors graciously responded, extended their help and offered various medical services to the patients – Dr.Mahesh Bikkina (Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology), Dr.Ramesh Eluri (Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry), Dr.Janardhan Bollu (Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine), Dr. Suryaprakash Ganti (Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine), Dr.Purushotham Surapaneni (Internal Medicine), Dr.Ugandhara Rao Vemulapalli (Psychiatry, and Weight Loss), Dr. Sreedevi Rama (Obstetrics, Gynecology), Dr. Lakshmi Lavanya Sodagum (Nephrology), Dr.Vineet Korrapati (Internal medicine and gastroenterology), Dr. Srinivas Katta (Internal Medicine) and Dr. Shaunak Dwivedi (Internal Medicine and Nephrology). Free Medical Tests were performed and meditation coupons were distributed to all the participants of the Medical Camp. Body fat measurements and weight reduction advise was given. Also nutritional consultations were given for heart healthy diet, low cholesterol diet and diabetic diet. Public were also made aware of the early symptoms of stroke and were taught on how to seek help in case of emergency.

He shared his past college sweet memories and his achievements as a TANTEX President  and restated his commitment  to promote Indian culture, values and traditions across the USA and expressed his happiness after receiving Hind Rattan Award from Ex CM of Maharastra Vilasa Rao deshmukh and also stated Hind Rattan award gave him more encouragement and at the same time more responsibilty.

He also promised to do  fund raising for constructing NRI Guest House in the name of  Andhra Pradesh's most respected and beloved late Chief Minister and SVU alumni student Sri YS Rajasekhar reddy for NRI's to stay in campus whenever they visit the world famous piligrim town Tirupati.

Several SV University professors, assist professors and lecturers attended the event.

Popular cine Hero Padma Shri Manchu Mohan babu personally congratulated his long time friend Sridhar reddy and also invited him to his Vidya Niketan college.
